Katrina's Trek 2017
Story
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in October 2015 & turning that negative into a positive I'm embarking on a trek in Tuscany in April/May 2017. This is a huge personal challenge for me & something completely outside of my comfort zone. The physical element comprises an 85km trek through the countryside in Tuscany over 5 days. In order to prepare physically, I've been undertaking various physical challenges (including the Mothers Day Classic, & City to Bay, ran 100kms in 30 days in November).
Returning to my full physical strength & fitness is an ongoing challenge because of the medication I have to take, but it's not stopping me trying. Yoga, walking, running & strength training at the gym are helping me keep on track physically & mentally. It's amazing how being confronted with such an insidious disease can turn what you thought was a weakness & make it your strength!
I have a goal of fundraising a $4,000 donation for the Breast Cancer Network Australia to aid research & development for other people, their families & friends that also face their journey with this disease!
I am posting updates on my training & my fundraising efforts through Facebook & Instagram:
